## 6 out of 10 dialysis nurses report hand or wrist pain from IV connections

Your staff connect and disconnect dialysis lines all day, and the repetition takes a toll.

- ### Stuck connections strain staff joints

Connecting and disconnecting lines all shift strains the hands and wrists, and stuck connections take extra effort.
- ### No solution leads to improvised fixes

93% of nurses who struggle with a stuck connection improvise with tools that could damage the line.
- ### Cracked hubs and damaged lines

Forcing a stuck connection with clamps or hemostats can crack the hub or damage the line.

HEMODIALYSIS

## Where hemodialysis connections get stuck.

Hemodialysis tubing connections can become difficult to disconnect due to repeated use, tight Luer locks, and fluid residual buildup.

PERITONEAL DIALYSIS

## Where peritoneal dialysis connections get stuck.

Whether in acute care or home settings, disconnections need to be controlled, confident and safe

## Frequently asked questions

### Which dialysis and infusion connections does Yewtwist work with?

Yewtwist works on Luer lock connections on bloodlines, fistula and graft needles, hemodialysis catheter caps and hubs, and infusion lines. It has three jaw sizes to fit most connector types.

### Should we use Yewtwist on every disconnection?

Yes. Connect by hand, then disconnect with Yewtwist every time, not only when a connection sticks. This reduces the strain on your staff’s hands and wrists.

### Should each patient have their own Yewtwist?

One Yewtwist per patient is the highest standard, kept with the patient’s supplies. Clean it before and after each use, and replace it when the jaws show wear or on the schedule in the instructions for use.

### Can Yewtwist help remove caps from hemodialysis catheters?

Yes. Yewtwist can help loosen tight caps and connections on hemodialysis catheter hubs. Its soft jaws are designed to grip securely while helping protect the hub from the cracking or damage that makeshift tools can cause.

### Can Yewtwist be used for home peritoneal dialysis?

Yes. Yewtwist can help home PD patients loosen tight connections on transfer sets and caps. Always follow the aseptic technique your dialysis team taught you.

### Can we add Yewtwist to home patients’ starter kits?

Yes. With a Yewtwist in their starter kit, home patients can loosen tight connections themselves. It works on almost all dialysis connections, catheter caps and hubs.

### Does Yewtwist reduce bloodstream infections?

Yewtwist has not been shown to reduce infection rates. It helps your team avoid the situations that can raise infection risk: cracked hubs, damaged lines and improvised tools.

**Read the instructions for use.** Yewtwist is a nonsterile hand tool for disconnecting IV, dialysis and feeding connections. See the instructions for use for directions, warnings, cleaning and replacement.

**Single patient use.** Dedicate one Yewtwist to each patient for the full course of their therapy. Clean it before and after each use, and replace it when the jaws show wear or on the schedule in the instructions for use.

Statements about infection risk refer to the situations that raise it, such as damaged lines, improvised tools and hand contact at the open end of the line. Yewtwist has not been shown to reduce infection rates.

Testimonials and case studies reflect individual experiences. Results can vary. Results labelled “Yewtwist nurse survey” come from surveys run by Yewtwist.
